Colander

Copper Colanders

The history of the kitchen strainer dates back to the fall of the Western Roman Empire, where it was first invented in Constantinople. With the decline of Constantinople, the strainer found its way to Venice and gradually spread throughout Italy. From there, it made its way to Europe and eventually reached America through the conquerors. Today, the kitchen strainer has become an indispensable tool in kitchens worldwide.

During the Late Middle Ages, specifically between the 12th and 15th centuries, marked by urban development, expanding trade, and the rise of the bourgeoisie, the kitchen strainer was created as a crucial utensil.

At Amoretti Brothers, we present our meticulously handcrafted food colander or strainer, offering a multitude of uses. Whether for straining pasta, legumes, rice, or even as a masher, this versatile utensil allows for the creation of gourmet cuisine. Chefs and food enthusiasts alike can utilize it to prepare purees from vegetables such as potatoes, tomato sauce, fruits, and more.

Our food colander is expertly crafted using solid recycled copper, with a tin lining on the inside surface for optimal functionality. The exterior is adorned with hand-hammered dots, adding a unique touch to its design. Completing its exquisite appearance are a pair of functional bronze handles, both beautiful and practical.
